Artist Research

Roy Lichtenstien

Lichtenstein was an American Artist, born in New York in 1923. He became popular in the 1960’s as a leading artist of the new Pop Art Movement. He took his inspiration from comics and adverts. His colourful, bright, graphic works were part of the art movement in the UK and the USA during the 1950’s and 1960’s that challenged traditional fine art, creating images from popular and mass culture. In all of his works at this time, Lichtenstein used very few colours and kept his paintings simple and used lots of bold lines and black. I am a big fan of Lichtenstien's work and was researching some of his pieces when conisdering what to do for my FMP, however although his work is popular with young people and recognisable, I do think the 'Marvel' effect maybe more effective to convey the message about cyber bullying and hate comments, especially as the marvel look has more darkenss and sinister effects that would be more appropiate for my poster.
